--!--Mass Transit Development Plan--!--

Welcome to the website of the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning of the Royal Thai Government’s Ministry of Transport

Bangkok urgently requires a mass rapid transit network to ease the current traffic congestion problem. There are three existing mass transit lines in Bangkok with a total length of 42km, and studies have suggested that to meet the Government’s objectives the network will need extending to around four hundred kilometres.

The Government has embarked on a “Partnership for Development” initiative for mega-projects throughout Thailand. The intent of this initiative is that for a number of key sectors requiring modernization, the Government is seeking talent worldwide to bring knowledge and resources to participate in integrated development schemes. Cost effective financial options are desired, that will be evaluated in an open and transparent process leading to the best value for Thailand.

The bidding process and schedule are as follows: the Ministry of Transport intends to invite proposals on January 26, 2006, for submission by April 28, 2006 from investors interested in participating in the development of the mass transit network and urban rail lines. Subsequently, a Government appointed panel will finalise selection of successful bidder by the end of July 2006. Potential routes have been identified and some engineering design has already been carried out. This information is available for inspection by potential participants, however, it should be emphasised that proposals are not restricted to the lines as currently designed, but may offer alternative options including appropriate rail types (such as medium or light rail or monorail etc.). Flexible and innovative proposals are encouraged.

This website contains all important background reference material in the form of previous studies and indicative layouts from existing designs. It also provides the terms of reference for the submittal of proposals, an interactive question and answer section and contact information.

Participants who want more details should register in this web site. The password will be sent after approval. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions in the sub-menu “Contact Us”.
